What are spicules?

How do spicules work?
Spicules are used to improve the delivery of active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin. Their porous structure allows them to capture large quantities of fat-soluble active ingredients and gradually release them after penetrating the epidermis. The skin’s protective barrier protects the body from UV radiation, infections, and harmful substances, but also hinders the absorption of beneficial ingredients. The spicules act like microscopic syringes, creating microchannels in the hydrolipid mantle and stratum corneum of the epidermis and significantly increasing the bioavailability of active ingredients: acids, retinol, and restorative complexes.

Spicules slowly release active ingredients and maintain their concentration in the skin, according to research, for up to 72 hours until the mineral shell is completely dissolved. They are then removed from the epidermis through natural exfoliation. This allows the desired effect of the active ingredient to be achieved without irritation, redness, or discomfort. Therefore, spicule treatments offer a non-invasive alternative to dermarollers.


The spicules also have a pronounced exfoliating effect, which triggers a number of processes:

\u2022 stimulate skin cell division;
\u2022 trigger collagen and elastin synthesis to restore the epidermis after trauma.
